There’s a canvas in your stash right now that’s almost too beautiful to start.

You know the one.

You loved it the minute you saw it. Maybe you even had a few ideas about how you wanted it to look when it was finished.

But once you got it home, all those exciting possibilities started turning into decisions.

What stitch should I use here? What thread would look best there? Should this area have more texture? Where do I even start?

And because you love this canvas so much, you don’t want to mess it up.

So you hesitate. You second-guess yourself. And you put it back in the bag and promise yourself you’ll start it when you have a better idea of what to do.

That's FOMU... Fear Of Messing Up!

And here’s the thing: the problem isn’t that you don’t know how to stitch.

You know plenty of decorative stitches, and you can follow somebody else’s stitch guide like a champ. Heck, you’ve even changed up some of those stitch guides and been happy with the results.

But when it comes to starting from scratch? That’s when you freeze.

The problem is that you’re trying to make a whole series of individual decisions without first getting clear on what you want your version of the canvas to become.

And that’s where The Inspired Canvas begins.

Because bringing your Creative Vision to life starts long before you choose the first stitch.

YES... Help Me Get Rid of FOMU!

What If You Could Look at Your Canvases in a Whole New Way?

"It made me think differently about how I approach looking at a canvas and choosing stitches. I was one of the ones that looked in a book to find a stitch without thinking about the entire canvas."

2025 Attendee

"The biggest takeaway for me was how much fun it was to color outside the lines in my mind. I didn't know I could mix up the fibers, try new stitches, improvise."

That moment when it all makes sense

They didn’t suddenly become more talented.

Something finally clicked — a new way of seeing their canvas, and recognizing the creativity that had been there all along.

That click? That’s exactly what these three days are for.

And I can’t wait to watch it happen for you.

The Inspired Canvas

In Just 3 Days, You’ll Go From “What If I Mess It Up?” to “I Can’t Wait to Get Started!”

Three live sessions with me! September 15, 17 & 19

11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Central

Bring one canvas.

Not the easy one, and not the one you’re already halfway through...

Bring the one that makes your heart go pitty-pat when you look at it.

And I’ll help you start seeing beyond the painted canvas to what your version of it could become.

Here’s What We’ll Do Together

Training 1

See the Masterpiece Before the First Stitch

You fell in love with the painted canvas — but what do you want your version of it to become?

On Day One, you’ll choose one of your own canvases and begin looking beyond the painted design to picture the finished piece you want to create.

By the end of this session, you’ll have a clear Creative Vision for your canvas — before choosing a single decorative stitch or thread.

Training 2

Develop Your Artist's Eye

Every stitch can be lovely on its own — but that doesn’t mean all of your choices will work beautifully together. That’s because the choices you make in one area don’t exist in isolation.

So on Day Two, we’ll step back and look at the canvas as a whole. You’ll begin to see why every choice you eventually make needs to work with the others to support the finished piece you have in mind.

By the end of this session, you’ll understand why the individual areas of a canvas can’t be planned in isolation — and why your choices need to work together to support your Creative Vision.

Training 3

Bridge the Gap Between Vision and Master Plan

A master plan is more than a list of stitches and threads. It’s the bridge between the finished canvas you see in your mind and the choices you’ll eventually make to bring it to life.

On Day Three, you’ll discover what an intentional master plan does, why making your choices in context matters, and how a master plan keeps those choices connected to your Creative Vision.

By the end of this session, you’ll understand what makes a master plan different from a collection of stitch ideas — and why it’s the key to creating a finished canvas that feels intentional and cohesive.

And before that voice gets too loud...

Because I hear it from stitchers all the time:

“What if I choose the wrong stitch?”
“What if I get halfway through and realize I don’t like it?”
“Maybe I should just find a stitch guide and let someone else make the decisions.”

Sound familiar?

You know how to stitch. You have beautiful threads, plenty of stitch books, and canvases you’re excited to bring to life.

The problem isn’t that you need more ideas.

It’s that trying to make one decision at a time — without first knowing how you want the whole canvas to come together — makes every choice feel bigger than it needs to be.

And that's exactly where The Inspired Canvas begins.

You’ll be in good company.

I’ve taught thousands of needlepointers over the years, and so many have come to me wondering how to turn the beautiful canvas in front of them into the finished piece they can picture in their mind.

What they discover is that there’s a way to approach their canvases with more intention — and a whole lot less second-guessing.

"All I can say is WOW… I learned so much about threads and choosing them, and I've been stitching all my life! The leap I took today was a big one."

Now, Let’s Make Sure This Is Right for You

I want you to feel really good about saying yes — so let me be honest about who these three days are for, and who they’re not.

This is for you if…

  • You have a canvas (or a whole stash of them) you love, but haven't been brave enough to start.

  • Your finished pieces don't always match the beautiful thing you pictured in your head — and you're ready to change that.

  • You know how to stitch, but you freeze up when it's time to choose which threads to use — and which stitches go where.

  • You've ever scrolled past somebody's gorgeous canvas and thought, "I wish I were that creative."

  • You've followed somebody's stitch guide all the way through thinking, well, I'd have done that differently.

  • You’re ready to stop relying on someone else to make all the creative decisions — and start bringing more of your own vision to your canvases.

This probably isn't for you if…

  • You're brand new and haven't learned your basic stitches yet. (Come back once you have!)

  • You want a quick list of "what stitch goes where" instead of learning to make more intentional choices for your canvas yourself.

  • You're perfectly happy stitching the way you always have.

  • You want someone to hand you all the answers instead of learning to think more intentionally about the choices you make.

If you read that first list and found yourself nodding along, thinking “Yes, that’s me” — then pull up a chair, my friend. This is exactly where you’re meant to be. 🩷

Sign Me Up Now!

And wherever you’re starting from, you belong here.

Now, maybe you read that list and a little voice still whispered, “But what if I’m too set in my ways… or too old to be learning something like this?”

Let me put that worry to rest right now. I’ve taught stitchers who were brand new and stitchers who’ve been at it fifty years — and the ones who grow aren’t the “naturally gifted” ones. They’re simply the ones who stay curious and keep showing up.

“I have to tell you, this is appropriate for us ‘mature’ stitchers as well! It all makes sense now, and I don’t have to count and go crazy anymore. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We can all keep learning.”

— Evan S., 2025 Attendee

That right there, “we can all keep learning,” is the truest thing I know about this craft.

It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting out or you’ve got fifty years of stitching behind you. If you’re willing to see your canvas a little differently, there’s always more beauty waiting to be created by your own two hands.

So come learn with me. 🩷

I'm Ready... Sign Me Up!

Hi there! I’m Ellen. 🩷

I’ve been stitching for more than fifty years — ever since I was a little girl learning at my grandmother’s knee. And for the last twenty-five years, I’ve had the joy of teaching this craft to stitchers all over the world.

Before all of this, I was a first-grade teacher, so helping people learn step by step — without overwhelm — is just the way I’m wired. I’ve owned two needlework shops, written a book, and had my pattern line carried in stores as far away as France.

But I’ll tell you what, my friend: nothing lights me up quite like watching a needlepointer begin to see her canvas — and her own possibilities for it — in a whole new way.

Because creating a beautiful finished piece isn’t about having some magical artistic gift.

It begins with recognizing that the painted canvas is the designer’s artwork — and that your artistry comes from how you choose to interpret it and bring your own Creative Vision to life.

And learning to look at your canvas that way is something I can teach. I’ve watched it click for thousands of needlepointers, and I would be so tickled to watch it click for you, too.

So come spend three days with me. Let’s discover what your canvases can become. 🩷

Imagine Sitting Down With a Canvas and Knowing Where You Want to Go With It...

You settle into your favorite chair and pick up a canvas you love. But instead of immediately wondering, “What stitch should I use here?” you begin somewhere different.

You can picture what you want your version of that canvas to become..

And you understand something you may not have considered before: the choices you eventually make for each area of the canvas need to work together to bring that Creative Vision to life.

Suddenly, you’re not looking at each little area as a separate problem to solve. You’re looking at the whole canvas — with a clearer sense of where you want to go.

Less second-guessing. More excitement. More of that “I can’t wait to get started!” feeling.

That’s what The Inspired Canvas is designed to do for you.

Come join me. Let’s bring your Creative Vision to life. 🩷

A little heart-to-heart

One more thing, my friend...

Those canvases in your closet aren’t going anywhere.

They’ll be right there next fall. Still beautiful. Still rolled up in the bag you brought them home in. And that little voice — the one that says “I’m not sure I’d do it justice” — may still be saying the very same thing.

I’m not telling you that to make you feel bad. Heaven knows, we all have a stash and a story about why we haven’t started.

I’m telling you because you don’t need another ten years of practice — or another hundred stitches in your repertoire — before you can begin looking at your canvases differently.

You can start by getting clear about what you want your canvas to become — and understanding why the choices you eventually make need to work together to bring that Creative Vision to life.

Three days. One canvas. And a new way of looking at what's possible.

That may be all it takes to finally look at that canvas in the closet and say,
"I'm ready."

Your best stitching is still ahead of you...

And it starts with learning to see your canvases in a whole new way.

Come spend three days with me and let’s put that artist’s eye of yours to work. 🩷

XOXO

Ellen
