You know those little details that make you look twice?
A thread that catches the light just so.
A beautifully textured stitch.
A scattering of beads that makes the stars in a night sky twinkle.
Theyāre often the very things you admire on someone elseās needlepointāand would love to try on your own.
Perhaps youāve even brought home a beautiful thread or a tube of beads with that in mind.
But knowing you love the effect and knowing where to begin are two different things.
It helps to see the materials, hear the ideas behind them, and watch someone show you how.
Thatās what weāll do together in The Artful Canvas.Ā
Ā See what a few thoughtful details can bring to a canvas.
Ā When I begin planning a piece, I love exploring the possibilities.
What might this thread bring to the design? Where would a little texture be lovely? And where could a few beads add something special?
For this workshop, Iām inviting you into that part of my stitching.
Iāll share a canvas Iām planning to stitch, show you some of the combinations Iām considering, and explain the effects Iād like them to create.
Then weāll take one of those ideas a step further with a live messy beading demonstration.
Youāll see how the technique comes together, from securing the first bead to creating an area filled with texture and sparkle.
š§µĀ Stitch and thread possibilities for a real design.Ā
Iāll show you some of the stitches and threads Iām considering for my canvas, where I might use them, and what I like about those combinations.
šŖ”Ā Messy beading, demonstrated step by step.Ā
If youāve admired beading but havenāt tried it, this is a welcoming place to begin. Watch me demonstrate how to attach the beads and build the effect.
š” Ideas to carry into your own stitching.
As we look at my canvas, Iāll share suggestions for where these stitches, threads, and beads could work on other designs, too.Ā
Ā Youāll leave with a closer look at a beautiful technique and fresh ideas for canvases of your own.
You donāt need previous beading experience to enjoy the workshop. Bring your curiosityāand a notebook for the ideas youād like to remember.
The Serendipity Way
Thereās so much joy that comes with making something beautiful with your own two hands.
Choosing a thread you love. Trying a stitch and watching its texture emerge. Adding a detail that makes you smile each time you see it.
At Serendipity Needleworks, I help you explore those possibilities with clear instruction and practical ideasāleaving room for you to express your own unique creativity.
Artful needlepoint can be as simple as a beautifully chosen thread or as dimensional as a fancy textured stitch or a cluster of beads.
The pleasure is in discovering what youād like to create, then building the skills to bring it to life.
Well, hello there!
Iām Ellen š©·
My grandmother taught me to needlepoint when I was nine years old. That early introduction grew into a lifelong love of stitchingāand, eventually, Serendipity Needleworks.
Iāve spent the past 25 years teaching stitchers how to explore stitches, threads, and techniques with greater confidence.
As a teacher, I love explaining the details: how something works, why a thread behaves the way it does, and what makes a technique useful on a canvas.
For The Artful Canvas, Iām bringing a piece Iām excited about, including a beading technique I look forward to sharing with you.
I hope youāll join me.
